If Jesus is a myth, then so is Christianity.
And if Jesus is just a made-up character, then everything we believe—our faith, our hope, our prayers—is just wishful thinking.
But here’s the thing… what if Christianity isn’t a myth?
What if there’s evidence? Receipts? Historical proof that Jesus was real, that He did what He said He did, and that Christianity isn’t just another “feel-good” religion?
Let’s break it down.
1. The Question That Sparked This Conversation
Last week, I was listening to Circle of Greatness with Nehemiah Davis when he asked Pastor Philip Anthony Mitchell a question that had me leaning all the way in:
“People are standing on their religion the same way you're standing on Christianity…”
Then he pushed further, asking:
“Is Allah and God the same?”
Pastor Mitchell’s response? He pointed straight to John 14:6, where Jesus says:
“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
And then makes us decide:
Was Jesus telling the truth… or was He a liar?
That’s it. That’s the whole question. Because if Jesus lied, Christianity falls apart.
But if He told the truth... if He's credible... then everything changes.
2. Is the Bible Just Another Story?
Skeptics argue that the Bible is just like any other religious book—or worse, a fairy tale. Some even compare it to fiction, saying:
"Believing in Jesus because the Bible says so is like believing in Spider-Man because of a comic book."
At first, it sounds like a clever argument. But there’s a huge difference:
The Bible isn’t just one book.
It’s 66 books, written by 40+ authors over 1,500 years, yet telling one unified story.
It’s based on eyewitness testimony.
The people who wrote the New Testament walked with Jesus, saw His miracles, and died for their testimony.
It wasn’t written for power—it was written under persecution.
Unlike myths or legends, Christianity didn’t start because people wanted control—it spread because people chose to die rather than deny Jesus.
People don’t give their lives for comic book characters. But they will for the truth.
3. Has Christianity Been Changed or Corrupted?
Another big argument is that the Bible has been altered—that people rewrote it for control.
But history tells a different story:
The Dead Sea Scrolls, discovered in 1947, show that the Old Testament we read today is 99.5% identical to texts written 2,000 years ago.
The New Testament has over 5,800 ancient Greek manuscripts, making it the most well-preserved historical document in the world.
The few variations found are mostly spelling differences—none of which change core doctrine.
So no, the Bible hasn’t been rewritten for control. But has it been misused? Absolutely.
People have twisted Scripture to justify slavery, war, and oppression—but that’s a human issue, not a Bible issue.
4. Why Jesus Stands Apart
Every major religion has a leader—Buddha, Muhammad, Krishna. But Jesus? He’s different.
He didn’t just claim to teach truth—He claimed to be the truth (John 14:6).
He performed miracles publicly, not in secret.
He fulfilled over 300 prophecies written centuries before He was born.
He didn’t just die—He rose from the dead, and 500+ people witnessed it (1 Corinthians 15:3-8).
And here’s the deal—if Jesus didn’t rise, Christianity is false.
But if He did, then everything He said was true.
And that’s what makes Christianity different.
5. So, Is Christianity a Myth?
That podcast made me wrestle with my faith, but instead of shaking it, it made it stronger.
Because at the end of the day, Christianity isn’t just blind faith—it’s built on truth, history, and personal transformation.
So the next time someone asks, “How do you know Christianity isn’t a myth?”, here’s my response:
If Jesus truly rose from the dead, then His words are true.
Why were so many willing to die for their belief in His resurrection? If Jesus didn’t rise from the dead, where is His body?
If the Bible has been historically preserved, it’s worth trusting.
And if faith in Jesus has changed my life, then that’s proof enough for me.
But let’s go even further—history itself confirms Jesus existed.
Flavius Josephus (Jewish historian, AD 93-94) – Wrote about Jesus as a wise teacher who was crucified under Jewish leaders.
Tacitus (Roman historian, AD 116) – Confirmed that Jesus was executed under Pontius Pilate and that Christianity spread despite persecution.
Pliny the Younger (Roman governor, AD 112) – Noted that early Christians worshiped Jesus as God—not just as a teacher.
Lucian (Greek satirist, 2nd century) – Mocked Christians but still confirmed they followed a real, crucified man named Jesus.
Even non-Christians recorded His life.
So if Jesus isn’t a myth, the real question is: What will you do with the truth?
